Jack Smith "Mr Blue Jay"

Jack Smith '67

Jack graduated from Liberty High School in 1967. best known as the face of Blue Jay sports, Smith roamed football sidelines at William Jewell College, and sat on benches in Kansas City gymnasiums for close to 50 years before his death in 2013.  As Mr. Blue Jay for more than 45 years, Smith served as an assistant coach, team manager, ball boy, and the biggest supporter for several Liberty High teams.

Tim taught in the Liberty School district for 35 years before retiring in 2011.  He continues to coach the school's cross country program, and has become one of the state's most accomplished coaches. He has led teams to several state team titles and national rankings.  Tim coached over 50 All-State athletes and was a 2007 inductee in the Missouri Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame.

Jeffrey Pond

Jeffrey Pond '61

 



 

 

Graduated from Liberty High in 1961. While in school, Pond was an All-State Quarterback and achieved a nearly perfect SAT score. He went on to attend Yale University, where he played football, and lacrosse. Pond graduated with honors in 1965. Afterward, Pond attended Harvard Law school and practiced law in Denver until he passed away in 2012.

Paul Stader

Graduated from Liberty High in 1931. After graduation, Stader met Hollywood director John Ford. Ford asked Stader to serve as a stuntman for Jon Hall in the 1937 film "the Hurricane".  Stader soon became a personal trainer, stuntman, and stunt coordinator. His credits include "towering inferno", and "The Poseidon Adventure". He directed and performed stunts until he passed away in 1991.

A 2004 graduate of Liberty High, Adams is one of the schools most decorated female athletes. Her accomplishments include being a four-year All-State track award winner, along with a four year All-conference, and All -District selection in volleyball and basketball, including a All-State basketball honoree her senior year. Adams graduated salutatorian and now works for the National Association of intercollegiate Athletics.

 

2007-08

Adams was a two-year volleyball starter and four-year letterwinner for Missouri State who joined the Lady Bears at the conclusion of the 2007 volleyball season and made an immediate impact on the MSU frontline...Scored four points and grabbed a team-high seven boards to go along with a pair of blocks in her Lady Bear debut vs. Oral Roberts (12/15)...Hit two of her three field goal attempts in the Lady Bears' loss at Western Kentucky (12/29)...Posted career highs of five points and four blocks in the longest outing (20 minutes) of her MSU career, a 76-65 win over Evansville (1/10)...Had four points, six boards, one assist and one block in just 14 minutes of playing time in MSU's win at UNI (1/17)...Scored four points, grabbed two boards, blocked one shot and handed out an assist vs. Indiana State (1/27)...Totaled four points, three rebounds and one block in just 12 minutes of court time in MSU's 78-58 win at Southern Illinois (2/8)...Had three points, three rebounds, two blocks an assist and a steal in the Lady Bears' 73-55 win over Wichita State (3/2).

 

Background

Adams earned second-team All-MVC honors and helped the volleyball Bears go 27-9 and claim their first-ever NCAA Tournament win in 2006....Was MSU's go-to attacker over the second half of the season and finished the year with 382 kills and a 3.03 average on .176 hitting...Upped those numbers to a 3.61 average and .213 attack efficiency in the last 19 matches of the season...Tallied double figures in kills in the last seven matches of the year, including a career-high 19 in Missouri State's win over Wichita State in the MVC Tournament...Recorded 24 kills and hit .226 in two NCAA Tournament matches, including 14 kills in the Bears' first-round win at Arkansas....Excelled in the classroom as well, earning MVC Scholar-Athlete honorable mention recognition...Was a four-year all-district first team pick and a three-year all-conference first team selection in volleyball at Liberty High...Holds the Liberty school records in kills (332), blocks (77) and digs (112)...Was also a four-year starter in basketball for the Blue Jays, earning all-state honors as a senior.
